US Secretary of State Antony Blinken thanked President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for Cairo’s leading mediation role regarding the US administration ceasefire proposal in Gaza, Spokesperson for the US Department of State Matthew Miller said.

During a meeting between President Sisi and the top American diplomat on Monday, the two sides continued discussion about governance, security, and reconstruction plans in post-war Gaza, which will support the ceasefire proposal, Miller told the US-based Alhurra TV channel.

He said this proposal, which guarantees the release of all hostages, is expected to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and allow more humanitarian aid into the embattled Gaza Strip.

Blinken reiterated Washington’s rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians from the Palestinian enclave.

Blinken landed in Cairo earlier today on his eighth visit to the Middle East since the start of the war in Gaza.

He will hold talks later on Monday in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mediators in the region, which also include Qatar, have been attempting to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas for months.
